How to make a dry fly floating without spending a lot money!? (by Michel Rigault)

1) Ask your pharmacist for a flask with a bakelite cap. Plastic caps are not watertight enough.

2) Buy some Ether and fill in the flask. Add a piece of grease and shake it so that the Ether dissolves the grease.

3) Dip your fly into this mixture, blow above. Due to the temperature of your body, Ether evaporates but the grease remains in the fibers of the fly.

This solution is not good for CDC.
